Deep Roots Organic LandCare has grown out of Aaron Shamberg’s breadth of experience working in the area of environmental sustainability dating back to the early 1970’s. As a teenager, Aaron attended The National Audubon Expedition School, a unique traveling high school which delved into learning through nature and experience. From there, Aaron began studying geology and soils at Lyndon State College in Vermont. Aaron then transferred to College of the Atlantic, where he finished his B.A. in Human Ecology in 1979. Following college, he put this commitment into practice by living and working on an organic farm in Maine. He eventually continued his education toward a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture at the University of Colorado in 1986.

As a professional, Aaron has since managed the design and construction of a variety of large-scale institutional, commercial and custom residential projects first in Denver and then in Baltimore, where he moved with his family in 1989. As an Environmental Planner and Project Manager at landscape architectural firms such as Stanley M. Hunts Associates, Rosenfelt & Woolfolk, and Daft, McCune, Walker (DMW), Aaron was responsible for Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) compilations, wetland delineation and mitigation design projects. Additionally, Aaron was involved in the planning and design of hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living facilities where he developed an expertise in accessibility issues and universal design as a consultant with Home Safety Innovations, Inc. Among other accomplishments, he has produced over 40 professional seminars including “Under One Roof,” the nation’s first interdisciplinary conference on environmental accessibility. Recently, Aaron has volunteered as a consultant for the overall site design and landscape construction of the Kayam Organic Farm at Pearlstone Conference Center in Reisterstown, MD.

Informed by his passion and knowledge of sustainable landscape design, building and technology, Aaron founded The LandCare Company in 1997, which provides landscape design and full-service outdoor maintenance. The Landcare has evolved into Deep Roots Organic LandCare Company to reflect his longstanding dedication to beautiful, healthy and safe environments. He is one of a handful of people committed to providing in Organic landscape architecture, design and maintenance in the Maryland/DC area.
